How to be a Teacher, not just an Instructor.
The Yogalates Teacher Training prepares you to educate students about their bodies, learning the intention of a pose, not just the pose itself. You will be able to help your students develop a heightened sense of awareness, and your teaching will be present, confident and safe.
How to create safe, mixed ability yoga classes
Develop skills for sequencing and teaching a safe flowing Yogalates class for a wide variety of students. Learn an “intention based” approach to poses and exercises that will allow you to creatively modify poses for special needs and beginners or safely extend poses for experienced students. We pride ourselves on our ability to make yoga accessible and affirming for everyone.
Teaching and presentation skills.
Being good at Yoga does not make you a good teacher. The Yogalates Training emphasizes the teaching and presentation skills that are involved in engaging and motivating students. Not all students learn the same way; some need to be told, some need to see and others need to feel. You will learn to use a variety of teaching methods to suit different learning styles.
Applied Anatomy, Physiology, and Kinesiology
Yogalates Teachers learn to choose poses and exercises that enhance functional movement patterns, avoid pain and injury, and develop the efficient and healthy recruitment of muscles during poses. Yogalates Teachers understand how to use the whole repertoire of yoga techniques and the core stabilising pilates techniques to support students in their individual safe practice.
An understanding of the breath and its effects on the physiology of the body is a fundamental part of any Yogalates practice. The Pranayama module will combine both theory and practice with a focus on precautions and contraindications.
Restorative Yoga, Relaxation and Meditation.
Relaxation is a foundation principle of Yogalates. Yogalates Teachers know how to incorporate savasana, yoga nidra, restorative yoga poses and meditation into their sessions in a way which connects deeply with and supports healthy function of the neuro-musculoskeletal system.
Yogalates students study and apply yoga philosophy to their daily life and practice. Many students comment that the philosophy component of the course deeply connected their Teacher Training study and practice to the larger intention of their lives.
