Annual Update/Refresher Workshops
Once a student has completed their training and become fully certified with the Yoga Pilates Training Academy Australia P/L they are recognised as full members of the Yogalates Teachers' Association. Association members are then able to join our annual update workshops which extend over a period 4 days. At each update workshop we aim to include the latest developments in the industry as well as giving a focus on developing and honing teaching skills. Previous workshops have included working with weights for bone density, teaching on the fitball and foam roller, pre-natal Yoga/Yogalates, postural evaluation, Orthobionomy (a gentle yet effective bodywork with self care exercises to prescribe to clients), chanting and chakras, pranayama (breathing techniques) and more....
The workshops have been a great success and have given us the encouragement to continue to make them even more informative, interesting and fun filled. The stories shared about individual teaching experiences and how much the general public have gained through the Yogalates method is very rewarding. It has made us realise how invaluable the workshop is as a forum for sharing, refining and developing the work further.
The enthusiasm of the particpants is very contagious and it is sensational to see the buzz on their faces as they integrate and assimilate the new work. The feedback received has been invaluable confirmation that we’re on the right track and that the many long hours the Academy spends on developing this method is all worthwhile. The workshops are a fabulous opportunity for learning new techniques, refreshing teaching skills and making new friends within the Yogalates community, as well as a catch up with old friends from your training.
Testimonial for the 2005 Update Workshop
“Having spent some time out in the big, wide world of teaching, attending The Refresher had a profound impact on my classes, providing incredible insight into how we’d grown and achieved as we spoke with confidence about our experiences since leaving the warmth of the nest. But then again, it was as though time stood still – leaving our shoes at the door, forming a casual circle, surrounded by familiar smiling faces, inquisitive about the new ones, the bolster was our desk top and a yoga mat our best friend. Exciting new poses, modifications and anatomical updates came hard and fast, imaginary class sequences darting back and forth in the monkey mind. LTB is now TB for valid physiological reason but, you had to be there. And, wow – can’t wait to use the band in Utkatasana to get the biceps happening as the quads burn! Sunday morning – Louise gave her first class in many months – to us! At the end of the course, all eyes are glazed with new and exciting knowledge. It took a week to add write up my bible, consolidating what I’d been instructed during The Refresher. New life was bred into my classes and students absorbed my enthusiasm with glee.
Beneficial – absolutely! Wouldn’t miss it for anything." Anne Love 2003
" . . . the update training was greatly appreciated. Fantastic opportunity to catch up with 2002 classmates and network with teachers from other years. Loved the format of the two days. I particularly liked the lesson we had with Louise and the Q&A session. This is a valuable opportunity to advance our professional skills and maintain the quality of the product we deliver. I hope to be at the 2006 Update and would recommend it to others. And the new studio - what a beautiful space!" Ruth Llewellyn 2002
